Illinois Domain Project
This page provides information and links about the Illinois Domain Project, along with links to how to set up your campus email for the transition.
Public Affairs, with the support of the Chancellor, is in the process of changing uiuc.edu to illinois.edu.
The decision is based on marketing data indicating that Illinois is a stronger "brand" than UIUC. Stronger branding contributes to a stronger reputation, and more effective outreach and recruiting, which can translate to increased funding for the campus.

In a nutshell
What's changing?
Public Affairs wants all campus email addresses to be @illinois.edu instead of @uiuc.edu.
How does that affect me?
Public Affairs would like you to start using your new address in all email and correspondence.
Will my old address stop working?
No; it will continue to work for quite a long time.
In effect, you now have two email addresses, a new @illinois.edu address to use from now on, and a legacy @uiuc.edu address. Both addresses route email to your existing email account.
When will this change happen?
Your new email address has already been activated. You can tell people to use your new email address now!
YourNetID@illinois.edu
What do I have to do?
To make the new address your primary one, you need to make a few simple changes:
- Your email software:
In your email software, you need to change the address in your From: field. (Note: Sometime this year, all the From: fields in the Express Email web interface will be changed automatically.)
Updating Your Email for Illinois.edu - Mailing lists:
Mailing lists will also be affected.
Updating Mailing Lists with Your New Email Address - Departmental email:
If your department has its own server, your IT staff will need to make additional changes.
